NYMAPS Collaborative Symposium
On January 20-21, 2015 the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership hosted the 7th annual NYMAPS Collaborative Symposium. Entitled ‘Engaged Scholarship: Fulfilling the Promise of the Public University’, the symposium raised the challenges and possibilities of engaged scholarship, practiced with a commitment to solidarity, in which communities traditionally researched and spoken for, collaborate in academic research to ask their own questions, challenge inequalities, and engage the struggle for a more just world. The symposium offered opportunities to learn about traditional and non-traditional data driven projects, and time for symposium participants to workshop projects with the broader group, while receiving guidance from keynote presenters Michelle Fine and María Elena Torre.
