members by first engaging\u00a0in public\u00a0discussions and increasing\u00a0our network capacity both online and in person.\u00a0\u00a0We also encouraged unfettered brainstorming about URBAN.Boston\u2019s possibilities. \u00a0We coordinated\u00a0many\u00a0public meetings over the past year:<\/p><ul><li>July 2012 \u2013 1st\u00a0exploratory\u00a0meeting\u00a0held\u00a0at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.umb.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UMASS Boston<\/a>, where\u00a0over 40 community leaders and faculty members shared ideas of what URBAN.Boston could be<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>October 2012 \u2013 2nd\u00a0meeting\u00a0held\u00a0in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ma-smartgrowth.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a>with over 40 attendees who discussed the issues\u00a0that typically arise in collaborative\u00a0research<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>December 2012 \u2013 3rd\u00a0public meeting\u00a0held\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsni.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative<\/a>,\u00a0convening over 60\u00a0participants engaging\u00a0in\u00a0conversation\u00a0about how URBAN.Boston\u00a0can help create a new kind of relationship between communities and\u00a0academics<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>February 2013 \u2013 4th\u00a0public meeting at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vietaid.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viet-AID<\/a>\u00a0where over 50 attendees had an opportunity to meet new people in their fields of interest and discuss current policy issues affecting local neighborhoods<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>June 2013 \u2013 5th public meeting with students, teachers, and others at the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.byop.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Youth Organizing Project<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>to discuss intersectional youth issues across the city including health, education, jobs, and safety and to identify existing data that may be relevant for collaborative research around these areas<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-2273\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-2273\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon elementor-accordion-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2273\"><p>Support for URBAN.Boston is provided by<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sagepub.com\/home.nav\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAGE Publications<\/a>, the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hazenfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edward W. Hazen Foundation<\/a>, and<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umb.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UMASS Boston<\/a>.<\/p><p>There are currently over 200 participants in the URBAN.Boston network including members of local and statewide community groups, labor unions, think-tanks, academic institutions, government agencies, businesses, financial institutions, and other non-profits.<\/p><p>URBAN.Boston is led by a Planning Team comprised of diverse practitioners who are committed to building this emerging network.
