On Monday, October 28th URBAN.Boston held another networking event, this time in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston.\u00a0 This event included small group round tables where researchers and community members had the opportunity to connect, share ideas and resources, and plan possible research + action strategies around issues facing Boston communities.\u00a0 Housing, community development, and transportation are examples of the types of issues discussed.<\/p>\n
Donna Haig Friedman of the Center for Social Policy<\/a> (CSP) at UMass Boston and Karleen Porcena of Action for Boston Community Development<\/a> (ABCD) and\u00a0Mattapan Family Services Center<\/a> led a capacity building presentation about how to create successful research + action partnerships between academics and community organizations.<\/p>\n URBAN.Boston has continued its network development through a series of meetings with community members and community organizations around the Boston area, including the Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance<\/a>, the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative<\/a>,Viet-AID<\/a>, and the Boston-area Youth Organizing Project<\/a> (BYOP).
