MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES
\nThe CRC Associate Director (AD) provides the operational and administrative leadership to support the CRC realizing its mission of producing innovative research to inform the building of healthy, prosperous, sustainable and equitable regions in California and beyond. The AD reports to and assists the Faculty Director in setting and executing the strategic objectives for the CRC. The AD leads the CRC\u2019s short and long term planning, and the development and execution of CRC projects; assessment of multiple constituency needs; developing funding proposals for foundations, public agencies, and individual donors; evaluation of academic program activities and functions; communication and cooperation with faculty in program areas: development of interdisciplinary collaborations; and initiation of programs that develop new programmatic directions.
\n1. \u00a0Organizational and Strategic Management (50%) The AD will hire, supervise, and mentor administrative and program staff affiliated with the Center and will also supervise and mentor students conducting research through the Center, when appropriate.
\nThe AD oversees all CRC budgets, personnel, finances and facilities. Provides leadership to meet Center and project goals and staffing needs by supervising Center core staff and academics. Prepares annual and other periodic reports.
\nThe AD will develop the Center\u2019s annual budget, including both internal and extramural funds, in consultation with the CA&ES Dean. The AD \u2013 with the assistance of the Operations and Finance Manager — will manage and report on all program funds, as required by University policies and procedures.
\nThe AD will work with Center staff in the development of an Annual Report and other publications and will develop other strategies to communicate Center activities to external constituencies, including non-profit organizations, media, foundations, representatives of state and Federal government agencies, and the public.<\/p>\n

2. \u00a0Fund Development and Budget Management (30%) The AD will play a lead role \u2013 in partnership with the Faculty Director — in seeking external funding through grants contracts, and individual donors and will assist broader College and University fund development efforts to support research projects involving the Center.
\nThe AD will support the development of collaborative research and outreach projects among UC Davis faculty, research staff and graduate students on issues related to regional change.
\n3. \u00a0Communications, Network Development, Professional Competence (25%) The AD will establish and maintain contact with other leading regional change researchers and institutions within and beyond California, and will develop MOUs with researchers and institutions outside of CA&ES as appropriate.
\nThe AD will develop and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders and end-users of Center research, including regulatory, local, state, and federal agencies, policy makers, external interest groups, foundations, non-profit organizations, industry organizations, and the media.
\nThe AD will represent the Center in scholarly, professional, policy and other networks, associations, and venues and will, as appropriate, review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications relevant to the Center\u2019s activities. However, this is not a research or teaching position and these activities will not be criteria in assessment.
\nThe AD will develop a broad knowledge of regional change-related research and extension activities being conducted by UC Davis faculty and other research personnel, and will establish and maintain contact with these individuals and encourage them to implement their research through the Center.
\nQualifications
\nAdvanced degree (Masters required, Ph.D. preferred) in city and regional planning, geography, sociology, public policy, public health, public administration, or related field.
\nExtensive experience with fund development and grant management from foundations, individual donors, and public sources.
\nExperience with human resources, staff development and mentoring (with both professional and student staff).
\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with media relations, publicity, and strategic communications.
\nBroad understanding of regional planning and policy issues in California and nationally.
\nAbility to effectively engage with a diversity of constituents (faculty, students, administration funders, policy makers, advocates, business leaders) from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.
